Original modern-day fiction for Hebrew learning; not a quotation from Midrash or Torah.
On Tuesday afternoon Noa’s mother calls her.
Noa, do you have time to come to the market with me? I need a few things for Shabbat.
Of course, Mom. I finish work in ten minutes.
Noa meets her mother at the entrance to the market.
What do we need to buy? Did you make a list?
Yes: tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, bread, and oat milk.
I’ll get the vegetables. You can choose the bread you like.
Near the stall a seller is arranging boxes of strawberries.
Hello! The tomatoes are very fresh today.
Great. How much is a kilo?
Eight shekels per kilo.
We’ll take two kilos, please.
After shopping, Noa sees that her mother is carrying two heavy bags.
Mom, give me the bags. I’ll carry them.
Thank you, dear. I didn’t ask, but that really helps me.
You always help me. Now it’s my turn to help you.
Honoring parents is also in the small actions.
Like Rivkah gave water to the camels too, not only the man who asked?
Exactly. She saw what else needed to be done.
On the way home they smile and plan the Shabbat meal.
